Arsenal had a great opportunity to end the trophy drought, which has been a huge monkey on the back for the last nine years. The club has not won a major trophy since the 2005 FA Cup win over Manchester United. This was also the last match for several stars like Patrick Vieira, who left the club after this encounter. Now, they have the chance to win this trophy drought – ironically – with FA Cup. Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has been part of several disappointing campaigns with Arsenal already, says that the club need a win in this competition.

The former Southampton man reckons that winning the FA Cup will change the whole outlook of Arsenal since they will start to learn about winning trophies. Arsenal have come close on several occasions during his nine years, but they have been criticised for their lack of experience in such pressure situations. In fact, they came close to being knocked out in the semifinals itself and it took the last minute goal from Per Mertesacker to rescue their FA Cup hopes. Arsenal then went on to beat Wigan 4-2 on penalties.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also says that a win in the FA Cup will help overcome several miserable defeat – against Chelsea and Manchester City – this season.

“I always hear commentators talking about squads that have been around and that have won things. They always mention the experience of winning, and knowing what it takes to win. Once you do get that experience of winning the first one, you automatically build confidence that you can go on and do that again and again and again. That experience is vital. Teams have only got that through winning trophies, and winning competitions,” said the 20-year-old, who has scored two goals in 14 league appearances this season.
